Wireless Connectivity Protocols
Connectivity through wireless networks has drastically changed the way ideas are being exchanged. With the addition of IoT, the process becomes more efficient & user-friendly.
Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN)- These networks are usually with very limited & short range. This technology allows communication between devices within 10 meters of each other. Wi-Fi & Bluetooth are 2 common examples of Wireless Personal Area Network.
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)- When devices are connected within limited areas such as homes, offices or schools, it is called Wireless Local Area Network. A large number of mobile phones, laptops, tablet computers & any internet-connected device can be easily connected.
Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN)- The area covered by this network is around 50 km which is the approximate area of a metropolitan area. It can also mean several interconnected LANs or Local Area Networks.
Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN)- When the network is spread across a wide geographical area, it is Wireless Wide Area Network. The area can be national or even international coverage.
